Goal 1: Community Action / Help and Poverty
Our aim is to increase awareness of the services local charitable organisations provide, and to build support and commitments to the community.
In 2021 amidst a global pandemic the Imperial Family continued to work together to raise funds for our chosen charities and were delighted to donate a total of €10,000 to Cork Simon Community and Irish Guide Dogs for the blind earlier this year.
Cork Simon Community was established in Cork in 1971 and its vision is a society without homelessness.
Irish Guide Dogs, whose headquarters and national training centre is situated in Cork, is Ireland’s national charity dedicated to enabling people who are vision impaired and families of children with autism to achieve improved mobility and independence.
Both charities are very close to the Imperial family hearts.
We as a team have chosen two charities to work with for 2022. They are Cork Penny Dinners and Cork Rebel Wheelers.
“We are delighted to partner with Cork Penny Dinners who have such a generous ethos of serving those who need support without question or judgement. It is nice for us to have this connection since this charity was first established right here at the Imperial Hotel in 1888.
"Cork Rebel Wheelers is another fantastic Cork organisation that was easy for us to select, we love that they empower young people with a physical disability, accessibility and inclusion are things we care about, so we look forward to supporting the club that relies 100% on fundraising to keep going.” Bastien Peyraud - General Manager
Our menus include a donation when some of our dishes are ordered.
Our team have also taken part in various other charitable activities so far this year including a charity donation for the Ukrainian Crisis Appeal and running the Cork City Marathon in aid of Cork Rebel Wheelers.
We also plan to volunteer with our chosen charities throughout the year.
We supported Bench Space Cork, Cork Zero Waste, and Cork City Council in 2021 with their initiative to create a community bench space area on the South Mall. This was created using upcycled materials. We continue to support Cork City Council in maintaining the upkeep of this space.
The hotel held its first sustainability market in November 2021 and will continue to run this on an annual basis supporting local sustainable suppliers whilst also raising funds for our chosen charities.
